One of the single most influential actions any business leader can take is to make digital technology a priority. This year’s eircom Spider Awards will again recognise inspiring stories of the Irish organisations that are using digital to make a difference: on the web, on mobile and anywhere their customers are.

Doing more with digital
There’s no doubt, from what we see in eircom Business Solutions through the work we do with Irish businesses, that the web, mobile, and connectivity in all its forms are the real powerhouse behind successful companies. That’s why eircom as a group has continued to invest in building the fibre and mobile infrastructure that will let businesses do more, no matter where they’re located across the country.

The digital landscape has changed completely, with more of your customers spending the majority of their online time on a device such as a tablet or smartphone. This poses obvious challenges in website design, but it also challenges the business on a deeper level.

How can your business use this opportunity? Are you developing your skills, your sales and marketing strategy, and investing in the devices and applications that can get you closer to customers, reduce costs and open new commercial opportunities?

New categories, new opportunities in the eircom spiders
As chairman of the judging panel for the eircom Spider Awards 2014, I was especially delighted to see the addition of new categories aimed at recognising innovative digital achievement in business. These include the Digital Game category, and I know the other judges and I are excited to see this year’s nominees.

We are very grateful to the panel of judges for giving their time again this year and we’re also delighted to welcome some new faces. I would like to personally thank them for their contribution to the judging process: their contribution is vital in ensuring the most deserving entries are recognised.

If you haven’t entered yet, there’s still time: we want to see a wide range of Irish organisations showing us what they’ve done with their online presence and taking this opportunity to win recognition for their hard work. Entries to the eircom Spiders are still open here and the closing date is 1st October.

Good luck to all the nominees this year!
